The direction of travel, not just a snapshot

A standard credit report is a photograph. TrueVision is the film. It shows trended credit data over time, so you can see whether a balance is rising or falling, whether utilisation is climbing, and whether the applicant is paying down or treading water.

What it is

Two applicants can look identical in a single month and be heading in opposite directions. One is clearing a balance; the other is quietly maxing out. A snapshot cannot tell them apart. Trended data can, because it shows how the numbers have moved.

Through Credit Canary, TrueVision adds that movement to the picture CallReport gives you, over one API and at a better rate. It is the strongest extra signal for mortgage and credit brokers, decisions in principle, and debt consolidation, where the direction of travel is the decision.

The full file is reciprocal

The complete shared credit file is available on the principle of reciprocity: a lender sees the full picture only if it contributes its own account and repayment data back to the bureau. Report your data back and you qualify for the full file; share nothing and you get a more limited view. This is the heart of how shared credit data works, and we help you set up data contribution so you qualify.

Where it wins, and where it doesn't

Where it wins
  • Decisions where direction of travel matters more than a snapshot
  • Debt consolidation, to see if the burden is really reducing
  • Mortgage and credit broking, before placing a case
  • Monitoring a book for customers whose position is worsening
Where it doesn't
  • Confirming identity, which is CallValidate
  • A one-off yes or no with no interest in the trend
  • Screening for PEPs or sanctions

Footprint and permissible purpose

TrueVision is a trended view of the same credit data a report shows, so CallReport is included whenever you use TrueVision: you get the full picture now and its direction of travel together.

Because it is credit data, it runs as a soft (quotation) or full search, exactly like CallReport, under the same permissible-purpose rules. Use the soft search to pre-qualify without a footprint, and the full search at application.

Getting access

TrueVision is consumer credit data, usable only for a permissible purpose for which you are approved. We set that up once, alongside your other products.

Credit and identity data is only available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for that purpose before you can use it. We handle the integration and the onboarding once, so a single approval covers credit, identity, affordability and open banking together.

How onboarding works
  1. 1
    Due diligence
We run due diligence on you and submit the application to TransUnion.
  2. 2
    Approval
TransUnion approve it and give the authority to contract.
  3. 3
    Contract
We issue your contract and pass it to TransUnion.
  4. 4
    Keys
    TransUnion issue your unique keys.
  5. 5
    Live
You go live, and billing starts.

The reason to take TransUnion data through Credit Canary is a better rate, on one integration that also gives you open banking, decisioning and payments.

How it fits with the rest of Credit Canary

Movement on top of the picture

TrueVision is most useful next to CallReport and TU Affordability: the report shows the position, affordability shows the capacity, and TrueVision shows which way it is all moving. Feed the three into a decisioning engine and the trend becomes a rule, not a judgement call a human has to make under time pressure.

TrueVision: FAQs

How is TrueVision different from a credit report?

A credit report is a snapshot of the position now. TrueVision shows how the position has changed over time, so you can see the direction of travel.

Does TrueVision include CallReport?

Yes. TrueVision is a trended view of the same credit data, so the full CallReport picture is included whenever you use TrueVision.

Who gets the most from it?

Mortgage and credit brokers, decisions in principle and debt consolidation, where whether someone is paying down or building up debt changes the answer.

Can it feed a decision?

Yes. Through Credit Canary the trend becomes a rule in your decisioning rather than a manual read, alongside affordability and open banking.
