Screen for PEPs, sanctions and the markers that matter
Screen the people you deal with against politically exposed persons, sanctions and adverse-media lists. It is a standalone product, and it can also be bought as one block with CallReport, CallValidate, TrueVision and TU Affordability. It covers the first screen at onboarding and keeping watch afterwards.
What it is
A screening check tells you whether the person in front of you is a politically exposed person, appears on a sanctions list, or carries other markers a regulated business is expected to act on. For many firms outside banking it is the check that turns a vague obligation into something you can evidence.
Through Credit Canary you can take screening on its own, or fold it into the same onboarding step as identity and credit. The job is not only the first screen: it is handling the matches sensibly, clearing false positives, and keeping watch after a customer is on your books.
Where it wins, and where it doesn't
- Firms outside banking that still carry AML obligations
- Onboarding, screening a confirmed identity at the start
- Ongoing watch on a customer book after onboarding
- Any process that needs an evidenced screening decision
- Assessing affordability or creditworthiness
- Proving identity on its own, which is CallValidate
- A use with no lawful basis to screen a person
Footprint and permissible purpose
Screening is a check against lists, not a credit search, so it does not affect the person's credit score. It does involve personal data, so you need a lawful basis and, for AML purposes, an approved reason to screen.
Screening produces potential matches that a person then reviews. A sensible process expects false positives and has a clear way to clear them, with a record of the decision. We can wire that review step into the flow rather than leaving it as a list to work through by hand.
Ongoing monitoring keeps watch after onboarding, not just at the first screen. We confirm its exact availability and cadence with you as part of setup.
Getting access
Screening is used for AML and financial-crime purposes. You need a legitimate, approved reason to screen a person, which we set up during onboarding.
Credit and identity data is only available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for that purpose before you can use it. We handle the integration and the onboarding once, so a single approval covers credit, identity, affordability and open banking together.
- 1Due diligenceWe run due diligence on you and submit the application to TransUnion.
- 2ApprovalTransUnion approve it and give the authority to contract.
- 3ContractWe issue your contract and pass it to TransUnion.
- 4KeysTransUnion issue your unique keys.
- 5LiveYou go live, and billing starts.
The reason to take TransUnion data through Credit Canary is a better rate, on one integration that also gives you open banking, decisioning and payments.
Best for
Where this does the most work. Each has its own data mix.
Screen once, or keep watching
Screening pairs naturally with CallValidate: confirm who the person is, then screen that confirmed identity. Run it as a block with the rest of the credit and identity products for a single onboarding check, and connect it to your decisioning so a match routes to a reviewer rather than slipping through. Where ongoing monitoring is in scope, the same connection keeps watch after onboarding.
