Identity, with no credit search and no footprint
Sometimes you need to know who someone is, but a credit check is neither wanted nor permissible. Non-credit identification confirms identity on its own, leaving no credit-search footprint on the person's file.
The job
Plenty of situations call for confirmed identity without any assessment of credit: a purpose where you have no permissible basis for a credit search, a check where a footprint would be inappropriate, or a service where creditworthiness is simply irrelevant.
Reaching for a credit report in those cases is wrong on two counts: it may leave a footprint you had no business creating, and it answers a question you were not asking.
The job is to establish identity cleanly, with evidence that you did, and nothing more, so the check is proportionate to the purpose.
The product mix
One check, kept to what the purpose allows.
Verify identity on its own, with no credit search and no assessment of creditworthiness.
Footprint and permissible purpose
This is identity verification, not a credit search. It does not assess creditworthiness and does not leave a credit-search footprint on the person's file. The exact footprint an identity check leaves is confirmed per check type.
You still need a lawful basis to verify the person, which the onboarding sets up. Keeping the check to identity alone is the point: it is proportionate to a purpose where a credit check does not belong.
What it looks like through Credit Canary
The person provides their details, CallValidate confirms identity, and you get a clear result with a record of the check. No credit report is pulled, so nothing about the check touches the person's credit file.
Where you later gain a permissible purpose for a credit view, the same integration adds CallReport without a second build.
Getting access
The credit and identity data behind this job is available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for the purpose that fits this use. We set the onboarding up once, so one approval covers the checks here and the rest of Credit Canary.
Credit and identity data is only available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for that purpose before you can use it. We handle the integration and the onboarding once, so a single approval covers credit, identity, affordability and open banking together.
