Prove a person is who they say they are
CallValidate is TransUnion's identity and AML verification. It is the engine behind ID checks, non-credit identification, and tenant and employee vetting. It confirms identity; it is not a credit search and says nothing about whether someone can afford or repay anything.
What it is
CallValidate answers the first question in almost every onboarding: is this person real, and are they who they claim to be. It supports identity verification and the know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering checks a regulated business has to carry out.
Because it is an identity check rather than a credit report, it suits purposes where a credit search is not wanted or not permissible. Through Credit Canary it runs over one API, at a better rate, and can be combined with PEPs and sanctions screening in the same step.
Where it wins, and where it doesn't
- Onboarding, where you need identity confirmed before anything else
- Purposes where a credit search is not wanted or not permissible
- KYC and AML obligations that require verified identity
- Tenant and employee vetting, as the identity leg of the check
- Judging whether someone can afford a commitment
- A full credit view at application, which is CallReport
- Trended behaviour over time, which is TrueVision
Footprint and permissible purpose
CallValidate is an identity and AML check, not a credit search. The hard-versus-soft distinction applies to credit searches, which CallReport and TrueVision run; an identity check is neither. It does not assess creditworthiness and it leaves no credit-search footprint on the person's file.
Verifying identity still involves personal data and a lawful basis, and for AML purposes you must be carrying out the check for a legitimate, approved reason. We set that permissible purpose up during onboarding.
Getting access
CallValidate is used for identity, KYC and AML purposes. You need an approved, legitimate reason to verify someone, and we set that up as part of onboarding.
Credit and identity data is only available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for that purpose before you can use it. We handle the integration and the onboarding once, so a single approval covers credit, identity, affordability and open banking together.
- 1Due diligenceWe run due diligence on you and submit the application to TransUnion.
- 2ApprovalTransUnion approve it and give the authority to contract.
- 3ContractWe issue your contract and pass it to TransUnion.
- 4KeysTransUnion issue your unique keys.
- 5LiveYou go live, and billing starts.
The reason to take TransUnion data through Credit Canary is a better rate, on one integration that also gives you open banking, decisioning and payments.
Best for
Where this does the most work. Each has its own data mix.
Identity first, then everything else
CallValidate establishes identity, and the rest of Credit Canary builds on it: screen the same person for PEPs and sanctions in one block, run a soft CallReport where a credit view is also needed, and confirm bank details with Confirmation of Payee before you pay out. One onboarding covers all of it.
CallValidate: FAQs
No. It verifies identity for KYC and AML purposes and does not assess creditworthiness or run a credit search.
Yes. Identification without a credit search is one of its main uses, for purposes where a credit footprint is not wanted or not permissible.
Yes. PEPs and sanctions screening can be bought alongside CallValidate and run in the same onboarding step, or as a standalone product.
An identity check is not a credit search. The exact footprint it leaves is confirmed per check type during onboarding.
