Prove who someone is, fast, at onboarding
Before you lend, let, employ or insure, you need to know the person is real and is who they claim to be. An ID check confirms identity in the flow of onboarding, and can screen for sanctions and PEP markers in the same step.
The job
The ID check is the gate everything else passes through. Get it wrong and you have onboarded a fabricated or stolen identity, and every later check is built on sand.
It also has to be quick. Identity sits at the front of onboarding, where drop-off is highest, so a check that takes too long or asks for too much costs you genuine customers as well as fraudulent ones.
The job is to confirm identity with confidence, evidence that you did, and, where you are obliged to, screen the confirmed person against sanctions and PEP lists, without turning onboarding into an interrogation.
The product mix
Confirm identity, then screen it.
Verify the person is who they say they are, for KYC and AML, without a credit search.
Screen the confirmed identity against PEP, sanctions and adverse-media lists, as a block or standalone.
Footprint and permissible purpose
An ID check is not a credit search and does not assess creditworthiness, so it does not affect the person's credit score. The exact footprint an identity check leaves is confirmed per check type.
Both identity verification and screening involve personal data and, for AML, an approved reason to carry them out. That approval is handled once during onboarding.
What it looks like through Credit Canary
The person enters their details at onboarding. CallValidate confirms identity; where you have an AML obligation, the same step screens that confirmed identity against sanctions and PEP lists and routes any potential match to a reviewer. You get a clear pass or a case to review, with a record either way.
One integration covers both checks, at a better rate than buying them apart, and leaves no credit footprint on the person you are onboarding.
Getting access
The credit and identity data behind this job is available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for the purpose that fits this use. We set the onboarding up once, so one approval covers the checks here and the rest of Credit Canary.
Credit and identity data is only available for a permissible purpose, and you need to be approved for that purpose before you can use it. We handle the integration and the onboarding once, so a single approval covers credit, identity, affordability and open banking together.
