Move a customer's money between their own accounts
Sweeping VRP is deliberately narrow: it moves money between accounts the same person owns, under a consent they set once. It is for the saver topping up, the borrower overpaying from their own account, the customer funnelling money into a bills pot. It is not a collection rail, and it is not commercial VRP.
What it is
VRP, in its sweeping form, lets a customer authorise automatic transfers between their own accounts within limits they set. The money never leaves the customer's ownership; it moves from one of their accounts to another.
That is the key distinction from commercial VRP, which collects money from a customer to a business. Keep the two separate: sweeping is self-to-self, cVRP is customer-to-you.
Where it wins, and where it doesn't
- Savings top-ups and round-ups into a customer's savings account
- Loan overpayments funded from the customer's own account
- Moving money into a dedicated bills or repayment pot
- Any self-to-self movement the customer wants automated
- Collecting a repayment from a customer, which is commercial VRP
- Taking a one-off payment, which is Pay by Bank
- Anything where the money leaves the customer's own accounts
Cost shape
Sweeping VRP is priced as a fixed amount per transaction, in line with the other open banking rails. We quote it within the overall volume picture rather than as a standalone price.
We quote on volume, not per rail. No price points here by design.
Failure and risk
Because the money stays within the customer's own accounts, the risk profile is low and the customer stays in control of the consent and can revoke it. The design question is usefulness: triggering the right sweep at the right moment.
Best for
The industries where this rail does the most work. Each one has its own payment mix.
Sweeps that fire at the right moment
Credit Canary sets up the consent, triggers each sweep on the rule that fits, savings round-ups, overpayment on a surplus, a pre-payday transfer into a bills pot, and records it against the customer. It sits alongside your collection rails rather than replacing them.
VRP (sweeping): FAQs
Sweeping VRP moves money between a customer's own accounts. Commercial VRP collects money from a customer to a business. Same underlying mechanism, very different use; we keep them on separate pages for that reason.
No. Sweeping is self-to-self. To collect variable repayments from a customer, you want commercial VRP.
To help a customer top up savings, overpay a loan from their own account, or move money into a bills pot automatically, which supports financial wellbeing and reduces missed payments.
Yes. They set the consent and its limits and can revoke it at any time. The money never leaves their own accounts.
